Aldershot Cemetery
Aldershot Cemetery (actually the Redan Road Cemetery, but also known as Aldershot Civic Cemetery) is the main public burial ground for the town of Aldershot in Hampshire.
The cemetery is located near Redan Hill in Aldershot and was formed in 1860, at a cost of £1,700, and enlarged in 1894, at a cost of £1,050. Originally it was under the control of a burial board of 9 members. Today the cemetery is made up of 13 acres of burial ground, with two chapels, one for the Church of England and another for Nonconformists.〔(Aldershot Records on the Forebears website )〕 Attached at the bottom of the hill is a small separate Jewish cemetery.〔(Aldershot Jewish Cemetery on the Find a Grave website )〕〔(Aldershot Jewish Cemetery on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website )〕 In November 2004 10 of the headstones in this cemetery were daubed with swastikas and other Nazi symbols in an anti-Semitic attack.
